A Song That Pulled My Heart Strings and Taught My Valuable Lessons About Loved Ones

Life can take us on uncharted paths. Its circumstances are always in flux and as much as we want, sometimes we can’t control the outcomes

When a song pulls my heartstrings, I’ll research the artist to understand why it was written.

James Bay wrote, Hold Back The River because he missed his friends and family.

He wrote the hit song when his fame was growing, but despite his worldwide stardom, he longed for the days he could see his loved ones again.

In his first headlining show in London, three-fourths of the audience was comprised of his close-knit circle. After the show, he couldn’t spend quality time with anyone because of his busy schedule. However, Hold Back The River was a song dedicated to all of them.

It was his way of letting them know that although we are apart, we can always still keep in contact.

You may find that you see loved ones less frequently now. However, distance does make the heart grow fonder.

Life can take us on uncharted paths. Its circumstances are always in flux and as much as we want, sometimes we can’t control the outcomes.

The time we have with those we cherish is special because it will never happen again. Make them count and rejoice in your moments like it’s the last because it really is.

The rivers described in the song, are the tears we shed when we are alone. Time apart from our loved ones brings pain and our tears help cradle and float our memories until we see them again. There is beauty in this type of longing.

The good ol days are always happening right now. Our memories are the rivers that map the latitude and longitude of our unique experiences.

When it’s all said and done, this is all we have left.

With Love,
Anand
