I’d Rather Be Miserable With You, Than Be Happy With Anyone Else

These are the words I often speak to my wife, especially when hope seems bleak and despair is abundant. I’ve learned a few things so far. How much of it is useful, I don’t know. However, I do know that life is hard, especially when we are in the fire of our problems.

It takes courage to hold on to hope when calm is overshadowed by calamity.

Our past struggles with my wife’s health have been difficult. It’s a topic I’ve been open about in previous posts. I share, not to victimize myself or those I love, but to paint a picture of resilience, strength, and determination — to come out of struggle stronger than before.

Despite the tough times, which have sometimes clouded my judgment from seeing all the good, we’ve been fortunate and have enjoyed our lives. It’s been one hell of a ride so far. I’ve learned not only to accept the journey but to embrace it fully.

We’ve hitched a trailer to our truck, spent time in various states, forged great relationships with amazing people, created a pop-up restaurant in our home, seen my beloved make tremendous improvements with her health, camped in the wilderness with thunderstorms keeping us company, and even brought a beautiful baby girl into the world.
