Stoic Sunday
We suffer more in imagination than in reality — Seneca
Much of human suffering is brought by events that have yet to be or have been.
They are stories that time has left or has yet to see.
We walk around with these imaginary tales as if they are ours.
What we imagine creates emotional suffering that need not be.
The ancient sages preach the importance of being here,
a place that’s never quite here or there.
To be present isn’t an escape from life’s realities; rather, it’s an actualization of them.
We chase our future trepidations like sailors without a sail.
I say to you, why fear when the waters are still?
I’ve been there and am there again and again, but the Stoics provide an anchor.
They knew that what was and what is to be can never truly be.
That to be here now, to devote all actions to the moment where our breath kisses the wind, is where freedom is free.
I have a lot more living to do, but a lesson that keeps me true.
Live deliberately, today and from now on, that’s my gift to you.
With love,
